The first day of The Festival features the most important hurdle race of the season, the Stan James Champion Hurdle. The 2011 victor, Hurricane Fly reclaimed his title in last season’s renewal when beating Rock On Ruby, who won the race in 2012. In doing so, Hurricane Fly became the first horse in 38 years to reclaim the Champion Hurdle Trophy.
Six other cracking races and the unique first day atmosphere make this one of the sporting highlights of the year. Including the OLBG Mares Hurdle, won for the last five years by Quevega, who might try and make it six on the trot at the 2014 Festival – a phenomenal achievement.
Gates open at 10.30am, with the first race each day at 1.30pm and the last race each day at 5.15pm.
