Last year, the legendary hurdler Big Buck’s was injured so was unable to line up for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle, giving other horses the chance to take the honours in the long distance hurdle race. Appropriately it proved to be the luck of the Irish, with Solwhit, trained by Charles Byrnes proving victorious, much to the delight of the Irish members of the crowd.
In addition to the racing, there will be plenty of Irish-style entertainment, as we party in full-on Festival fashion. We are continuing our successful relationship with Cancer Research UK by hosting the St Patrick’s Derby, a charity flat race as the last race on the card. Over the last three years, in excess of £840,000 has been raised at The Festival and the charity race will once again be taking place as the centrepiece of the fundraising on St Patrick’s Thursday.
Gates open at 10.30am, with the first race each day at 1.30pm and the last race each day at 5.15pm.
