An outstanding two days of racing action
The Stan James International Hurdle, a hugely valuable race in its own right, is one of the leading trials for the Stan James Champion Hurdle at The Festival. It was won by Zarkandar last year, trained by Paul Nicholls who enjoyed a four-timer on the day. Zarkandar went on to win twice more last season, but could only manage fourth behind Hurricane Fly in the Stan James Champion Hurdle. Other notable races of the day on Saturday include the Osborne House Relkeel Hurdle and the big Handicap Chase of the day, won last year by Unioniste.
Friday’s racing is equally enthralling, featuring the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase, completing Europe’s Crystal Cup Challenge. Last year, At Fishers Cross, winner of the Albert Barlett Novices’ Hurdle at The Festival, made his Cheltenham debut when winning a Handicap Hurdle. He remains unbeaten on all three starts at Cheltenham.
