The Open Countryside Day Friday 16th November 2012

Countryside Day

Here are the details for Countryside Day in 2011 to give you a flavour of what takes place. The 2012 details will follow in due course.

Gates open at 10.00am with the first race at 1.10pm. The last race is at 4.05pm.

One of the most popular days of the season, Friday at The Open is Countryside Day with its unique country fair atmosphere and a range of displays and demonstrations covering many equine and other country pursuits. The Thoroughbred Breeders Association stages the ever-popular National Hunt Stallion display on this day.

The six races on offer are pretty special too, with the feature event being the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase, over the twists and turns of our unique cross country course. This day will also raise significant sums of money for both The Countryside Alliance and Equestrian Team GBR. After racing there is a Brightwells Bloodstock Sale, to which all are welcome. For more information on the sale, click here.

At 11am there will be two minutes' silence for Remembrance Day.

On the Racecourse shortly after that, we have a very special display, called 'Team GBR Prepares', in which Team GBR Performance Manager Yogi Breisner puts a top dressage rider, showjumper and eventer through their paces.

This is followed by the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association parade of stallions in the Parade Ring and then a parade of beagles on the Members' Lawn in front of the main Grandstand.
