The Open Paddy Power Gold Cup Day Saturday 17th November 2012

Paddy Power Gold Cup Day

Here are the details for Paddy Power Gold Cup Day in 2011 to give you a flavour of the day. The 2012 details will be released in due course.

The Paddy Power Gold Cup has been run every year since 1960 and in that time many of the sport's greatest names have won the race, from Tom Dreaper and Pat Taaffe in the early days, to AP McCoy and Jonjo O'Neill in recent years. Last season's 50th anniversary race went to Little Josh, a popular local winner for trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies and his 18 year old son and jockey, Sam. Long Run, who went on to win the King George at Kempton and the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, was third.

There are five other highly competitive contests on one of the best Saturday cards of the season. Plenty of Irish horses and racegoers also make their way to Cheltenham for The Open, which only adds to the vibrant atmosphere.

Join us at 12.15pm for all the build-up to the action with our Parade Ring Preview Show.

Gates open at 10.00am with the first race at 1.20pm. The last race is at 4.10pm.

For many racing fans, this is the day when the new Jump racing season really gets into top gear.
