The Order of Merit
What is the Order of Merit?
The Order of Merit is an exciting inititative aimed at supporting the best races over hurdles and fences during the winter season, by encouraging increased competition amongst the top equine athletes and providing a narrative for racegoers to follow.
The Oder of Merit is a points based system which covers all Grade 1,2 and 3 non-Novices' races run between October and April. Horses accrue points throughout the winter season and at the end, the horse with the most points will win the Order of Merit and the £100,000 first prize.
How does the points system work?
The competition is scored to reward both excellence and participation, as follows:
| Finishing position | Grade 1 races | Grade 2 races | Grade 3 races |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | 20 | 15 | 10 |
| 2nd | 16 | 12 | 8 |
| 3rd | 12 | 10 | 6 |
| 4th | 10 | 8 | 5 |
