Frequent Runner Championship
Our Frequent Runner Championship, sponsored by Irish Thoroughbred Marketing, rewards the trainers who run horses regualrly throughout the season, with points accumulated from the Showcase to the April Meeting. The leading trainer wins a 12 month lease of a two berth horsebox from scheme co-sponsor Equi-Trek, the leaders in horse transport, with the top 6 trainers at the end of January winning a table for 10 at the Festival. The scheme is designed to reduce the costs of a trainer's business, and enable him to reward and retain his own ownership clientele, whilst also maintaining field sizes in races at Cheltenham
In 2007/08, Paul Nicholls beat Nigel Twiston-Davies by 1/2 point in a titanic struggle that went down to the very last race of the April meeting, but in 2008/09, the positions were reversed, with Nigel Twiston-Davies running out a comfortable winner and Paul finishing second. Nigel won again in 2009/10, but Paul was a comfortable winner in 2010/11.
